Descartes Systems is seeking an experienced SQL Database Developer .The successful candidate will thrive in a fast paced Agile/Scrum environment, possesses excellent database analysis, development, and deployment background. Reporting into the R&D function, the candidate will join our Global Trade Intelligence development team supporting cutting edge web-based and client-server multi-platform applications.


Responsibilities:

 

            Analysis, design, and support databases in Microsoft SQL server database environment

•            Responsible for designing and implementing applications using the ASP .NET framework and SQL

•            Design, develop, code review, bug-fix and test the application

•            Development and maintenance of SQL and PL/SQL scripts

•            Expertise in Data Extract, Transform and Loading (ETL) using SSIS packages

•            Provide consulting and support to other developers in the following areas:

•            Effective utilization of data and database resources

•            Optimization of stored procedures and SSIS packages

•            Proficient in creating indexes, views , appropriate SQL functions and triggers

•            Tuning SQL queries and improving query performance

•            Create and maintain data dictionaries and database documentation

•            Troubleshoot database and SQL problems

•            Taking ownership and understanding business requirements

 

Required Skills and Qualifications:

 

•            University degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent work experience of 5+ years in an SQL Server DB Developer role and in ASP .NET.

•            Strong verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal, analytical, and troubleshooting skills

•            Applied knowledge of MS SQL Server tools, SSIS, Performance Tuning and Optimization

•            Demonstrated ability to create normalized database schemas utilizing data modeling discipline. Understanding of normalization, de-normalization, and the difference between the two.

•            Strong TRANSACT – SQL and PL/SQL skills

 

Nice to have:

 

•            Familiarity with the practical application of JSON and XML in SQL Server

 

Location: This is a remote opportunity, open to applicants authorized to work in Canada or the US, with preference given to residents of Canada.  We are a global organization using English as a primary language, job descriptions and communication available in the local languages where required. #LI-Remote.
 

Salary Range: $80,000 to $85,000 CAD “Compensation information provided is a good faith estimate for this position only. Factors that may be used to determine your actual salary may include your specific skills as well as the years of experience you have. Similar positions located in different geographic regions will not necessarily receive the same compensation.”
