Descartes is a leading provider of Ocean Transportation Rate Management Systems and Ocean Publishing Services. The systems and services that Descartes supplies to many ocean carriers, 3PLs, shippers, and other ocean intermediaries allows them to manage, negotiate, and calculate ocean freight utilizing shipment parameters to a bottom-line cost. 
As a Publishing Analyst, you will be required to enter and maintain ocean tariff information received via E-Mail/Descartes online applications into Descartes Rate Master Software in accordance with Federal Maritime Regulations. Tariff information consists of ocean service contracts, rules/charges, algorithms, commodity descriptions, and rates. Additionally, a limited amount of customer interaction may be required to answer questions and to resolve filing issues regarding business intent. 

 

Responsibilities:
•    Convert and Maintain ocean transportation data in Descartes proprietary applications. 
•    Process updates in accordance with Federal Maritime Commission (FMC) Regulations.
•    Ensure that processed data represents the customers true business intent.
•    Provide customers with filing confirmations.
•    Authorize updates that another team member has completed.
•    Provide customers with assistance concerning tariff filings, FMC regulations, and system functionality.
•    Communicate with the FMC to assist customers with regulatory issues.

 

Required Assets:
•    Detail Oriented
•    2-year Associate Degree, Data Management, Information Science, or equivalent experience
•    Strong skills in Word, Excel, and E-mail (Microsoft Outlook Preferred) 
•    Good analytical, clerical, and organization skills 
•    Must be team oriented.
•    Flexibility to work overtime when required.
•    Good verbal and written communication skills 
•    Works well under pressure due to daily work deadlines

 

Nice to have skills:
•    Ocean transportation domain knowledge
•    Publishing experience
•    Supply Chain experience
•    Math and logic skills

 

Location: This position is based out of our office in Pittsburgh, PA.  Initial training is in office but the position is considered to be remote.
